Procedures that are not followed:
How I deal with a procedure being broken will depend on the severity of the procedure or intention of the student who chose not to follow it. For students who have chosen not to follow a procedure on a more consistent basis or to a more extreme degree, I would take the action below:
1. First warning: The teacher provides a verbal reminder to student.
2. Second Warning: Verbal warning and chance to reset.
3. Third Warning: Discipline referral and communicate with parent/guardian.
4. Fourth Warning: Communicate with principal and take appropriate action.
Tardy:
- If a student is not in their seat by the time the bell rings and I shut the door, they are considered tardy.
- If a student comes in after the door has been shut, they are to quietly sign the tardy sheet, find their seat, and join in the activity. If they have questions about the assignment, they are to raise their hand and and silently wait for instruction.
- Once a student has reached three unexcused tardies, I will notify both the principal and the parent. An unexcused tardy includes any late arrival to the classroom without a note from a parent, teacher, and principal.
Absence:
- It is the student’s responsibility to check with me and/or a fellow classmate about what they missed while they were absent.
- A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns.
- An absence is only considered excused if I have received a note or email from the parent. Parents will be notified of any unexcused absences.
Passing in assignments:
- If wet, finished assignments should be placed on the drying rack. When dry they are to be placed in the appropriate classroom bin.
- The student should have their rubric and name attached to the back of all artwork.
Handling art supplies and space:
- All paper that students would like to dispose of should be placed in the “scrap paper” pile. If paper is too small to be considered “scrap paper”, it should be placed in the recycle bin.
- Students are to always place newspaper under their artwork when using paint, which they will find in a box in the clay room.
- Students are to keep hands to themselves, and never mark up any school property, clothing, or skin with the art materials.
- Although messes happen in art, it is the student’s responsibility to leave their workspace cleaner than when they came.
- Clean up is to start no sooner than 5 minutes before the class period ends unless I state differently.
- After gaining my approval, students are to take the designated “bathroom pass”.
- Only one student may use the pass at a time.
Asking for help:
- I will set a card out for each student at every table before our class period starts. These cards will have two sides; one will have a smiley face printed on it, the other a question mark. When more than one person has their hand up, they are to flip their card to the appropriate side so that they can continue working while I make my way to everyone who requires assistance.
Noise level:
- Students are to maintain an appropriate conversation level while working on their artwork.
- I will be playing light music during the class period. If I can no longer hear the music, the noise level is too loud.
- I will give students one verbal warning, then I will start turning over letter to the word “art” on the white board. When the last letter is turned over, we will have a silent class for the rest of the day. If this happens at the end of the class period, it will carry over to the next day.
Technology:
- Only visit approved sites
- Never give out personal information
- Do not download anything to computer without teacher permission
- Check with teacher before printing
- Do not change settings without teacher permission
- Make sure netbooks are plugged in when not in use
- Keep food and beverages away from devices
Cheating:
- The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected.
- The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment.
Plagiarism:
- Plagiarism is the taking of ideas, writings, and artwork of another and passing them off as one’s own.
- In this class, plagiarism includes:
2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class)
3. including a source but failing to cite it
4. copying an artist’s work and passing it off as one’s own
- Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment.
Procedure questions:
- All procedures for my classroom will be printed and hung near the entrances of the room. If a student ever forgets a procedure, they are welcome to walk over and look up the procedure they are unsure of.
- If a student continues to feel confused about a procedure after reading through the procedure list, they are free to ask me for clarification.
Leaving the classroom:
- All paper that students would like to dispose of should be placed in the recycling bin.
- I will assign each table a different clean up job to complete 5-10 minutes before the end of class, depending on the project that was being worked on.
- Students are to wait for me to verify that they have cleaned up their area efficiently before being dismissed from the class.
Procedures that are not followed:
How I deal with a procedure being broken will depend on the severity of the procedure or intention of the student who chose not to follow it. For students who have chosen not to follow a procedure on a more consistent basis or to a more extreme degree, I would take the action below:
